Prairie Burn

Prescribed burning is a method of managing and supporting prairie growth. It involves applying fire to an area of land in a controlled manner in order to increase the resilience of plant species and controlling invasive plants. Only prairie grass burns will be conducted through this program. Wooded areas, leaf piles and stacked brush will NOT be considered.

The Middleton Fire District will accept prairie burn requests in our jurisdiction. Please complete the information as accurately as possible and we’ll get you on the schedule. You will be contacted when conditions are favorable for us to complete the prairie burn request.

Minimum donations have been established as follows: SMALL - $250 (0 - 25 acre), MEDIUM - $500 (.25 - 1 acre), LARGE - $750 (1 - 1.5 acres), EXTRA LARGE - * TBD (burn areas larger than 1.5 acres) *Extra Large prescribed burns will be reviewed by the Burn Director to establish minimum donation. **The above sizes are to be considered estimates and the Burn Director will review the burn area ahead of time to provide a size classification. 3. Minimum donations shall be collected PRIOR to the start of any prescribed burn.
